Third Prize: Malcolm Raggett with 'Lone Cone'

This entry made us chuckle. “I photograph cones”, writes Malcolm Raggett, “usually individual ones, that may be hiding in some way, either by being partially concealed or having some shape or colour similarity with their surroundings. They may be nearly new, or abandoned and neglected. They may be just lying around, or they may be more purposeful or on some sort of adventure. The ones I like best are those being used for purposes that the original designers cannot have imagined.” The collected 72 photographs in Lone Cone reveal that Raggett has a very good eye for a picture, is very good at looking, and has a great sense of witty irony. Who would have thought you could make a poignant picture of a traffic cone? Well Malcolm Raggett most certainly can. You can see a selection of the work at Raggett’s website - click here.
